Jameis Winston had a very solid rookie season, and Buccaneers fans have a lot to look forward to. The NFL has taken notice, nominating the young quarterback for two major awards. Now, you, the fans, can help him bring the trophies home.

Earlier this week, we took a look inside the numbers of Jameis Winston. With elements of his game that do need improvement, as with any young quarterback, his overall production was strong. The Buccaneers have found a quarterback that could, if they play it correctly, lead them for least the next decade.

Well, Bucs Nation, the NFL has taken notice of Winston’s strong showing, and now he needs your help. Winston has been nominated for two of the league’s high honors; Rookie of the Year and Clutch Performer of the Year.

More from The Pewter Plank

For the rookie award, Winston is the only quarterback nominated.  His competitors are Todd Gurley, Amari Cooper, Tyler Lockett and Marcus Peters.  Here are some highlights of Winston’s candidacy, courtesy of the team website:

"Winston threw for 4,042 yards, the third-highest total for a rookie in NFL history. He was just the second quarterback in team history to crack the 4,000-yard mark and he directed the most prolific offense, in terms of yards, ever for the Buccaneers. He accounted for 28 total touchdowns, the third-most in NFL history for a rookie quarterback. Six of those 28 scores came on the ground, tying a team single-season record for quarterbacks. His 22 passing touchdowns tied for the fourth-most by a rookie in league annals."

These are some significant points in Winston’s favor, but winning the award will be tough. Marcus Peters intercepted eight passes, an impressive number for a cornerback, especially for a rookie. Amari Cooper’s 1,000 yard, six touchdown season, will be had to overlook as well.

It’s save to say that Winston is in good company. But that is nothing compared to the nominees for the Clutch Performer of the Year Award.

Winston’s fellow nominees in the Clutch Performer category are Antonio Brown, Drew Brees, Stephen Gostkowski, and Khalil Mack. Any NFL fan knows what these four guys bring to the table. Jameis should be honored that he was chosen to be a part of this group for consideration.
