With the NFL draft just over 24 hours away, we take a look at the final preparations by the Buccaneers, from a humorous sense.

Buccaneers’ fans, the wait is finally almost over.  The NFL draft begins Thursday night, and it is about time.  Finally, the predictions can stop, the waiting ends, and the event begins.  For the teams, the process finally comes to a close, they finalize their boards, and get ready to start handing those cards for announcement by Roger Goodell.

With that, I felt it high time to take a quick break from the speculation and predictions.  It’s time to have a quick bit of fun, as we await the beginning of the first round.  We take a look at what the final prep might be looking like at one Buc Place, with a side of humor.  Here is a brief parody of the famous poem, “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas”.

‘Twas the Night Before Draft Day

‘Twas the night before draft day, and at One Buc Place

Not a team scout was leaving, not even with haste;

The boards were all hung, in the draft room with care,

In hopes that a future star really is there.

The Glazers were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of Super Bowls danced in their heads.

Blair in her room, Jason Licht with Bucs’ cap.

Had just settled down for their pre-round one nap.

Then from Jason’s phone, there came a loud clatter.

He jumped out of bed to see what was the matter.

He ran to the phone, knocked over his cup.

He answered the phone and he said, “What is up?”

The man on the line exclaimed with great vigor,

“Jason, it’s me, there’s a trade to consider”.

Licht took off his cap and said with a shout,

“Stop stalling already, what is it about?”

“The Jets made a call, they want the ninth pick,

I really believe a trade would do the trick.

They’re offering Wilkerson, he’s on the table,

I read the report, he is healthy and able.”

Licht wiped off his brow, his skin was quite taut,

He wrote on the paper, and gave it some thought.

“Wilkerson’s tough, he rushes the passer,

Our team will improve, it will happen faster.”

Licht said in the phone, with a curious tone,

“What do the Jets want, and what will we own?”

He then heard the answer, though shaking with fear,

“Their first and third rounders, each chosen this year.”

Licht paused for a breath and said with a cheer,

“That trade is just perfect, let’s get it done here!”

He called up to New York, and got it all done.

He put down the phone and said, “This is fun!”

With Wilkerson now with the Bucs on the D-Line,

Licht stood up and said, “That move was just fine!”

The draft is now here, for those far and away,

Happy draft day to all, let’s go Tampa Bay!
