Continuity on Offense

Coach and quarterback.  It might be the most important relationship in sports.  It’s certainly the most important relationship in football.  Ask Bill Belichick about his relationship with Tom Brady if you want to know for sure.  According to Greg Garber of ESPN, the two are a perfect match, and have gotten to a point where they “finish each other’s sentences”.

More from The Pewter Plank

That’s when you know you have gotten it right.

The scene pictured above was seen a great deal in 2015; offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and Winston conferring on the sidelines.  The leader of the offense on the sideline will work hand in hand with the leader on the field, and last season, it paid huge dividends.  We already talked about the numbers Winston put up.  The Bucs’ offense as a whole set franchise records.

Often, when a coaching change takes place, the entire staff is gone, leaving a young quarterback to start from square one.  When the offensive coordinator is promoted to said head coach position, the growth is allowed to continue.  Jameis gets to continue in an offense he feels more than comfortable with.

And that means only good things are ahead, folks.
