The greatest kicker in Buccaneers’ history,

Martin Gramatica

, is the next man in line to give a ringing endorsement to new Bucs’ kicker Roberto Aguayo.

More from Bucs News

Roberto Aguayo grew up a Buccaneers fan because of Martin Gramatica, and now he finally has had the opportunity to meet the legendary kicker. They got a chance to chat in person at an OTA last Thursday when Gramatica attended the practice with his two children. Aguayo noticed him on the sideline and immediately walked over to introduce himself, and they spoke for about a half hour.

Gramatica, who was drafted by the Bucs in the third round of the 1999 draft, had some high praise for Aguayo. This is what he had to say per Buccaneers.com.

"“It’s awesome to meet him finally, I’ve talked to him on the phone a couple times so to actually meet him … the best thing I’ve been hearing from everyone is how humble and how hard of a worker he is. That’s a start. Once you’ve got a guy like that, the rest… and he’s proven it. What he did in college – you can’t do what he accomplished in college without working hard so I’m glad that he’s a Buc. We’re going to have a great kicker for a long time.”“He’s not your typical kicker, I’ve played with some that would kick and go to play golf. He’s out here and the guys see him out here – that’s huge. You don’t see that a lot. There are guys that do their thing and then they leave where, in his case, he’s here and he’s part of the team. That’s what you want. You want a guy that wants to be a part of the team and wants to be with his teammates. I think it’s a great, great, great choice.”"

It’s definitely exciting to know a former Tampa Bay great thinks this highly of a rookie already. And it’s another stamp of approval of the ‘controversial’ decision to select a kicker in the second round of the draft.

Roberto Aguayo also had some great things to say about Martin Gramatica.

"“He’s a great guy, I remember me and my dad and my brother and my mom watching him on TV making a lot of kicks. The one thing that’s cool is that him and his brother were two great kickers. Me and my brother are going on that same path. He is a legend here in Tampa as a kicker and I hope to be just as successful as him, maybe even more.”"

If Aguayo can provide the same impact as Gramatica then we might see some records break in Tampa. Martin Gramatica is currently holding the Bucs all time leading scoring record with 592 points which he acquired during the 1999-2004 seasons.

All in all, I’m sure Roberto is more than happy to be following in his predecessors footsteps.
