The Buccaneers’organization has been dying for a double digit sack man since the age of Simeon Rice. Although it is just week one, Robert Ayers Jr. has shown he can be that man…and more.
Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers have proven they will be a force to be reckoned with. They traveled to Atlanta this weekend and made the Falcons remember that painful feeling of the continuation of a sweep. Both the defense and offense were able to have successful outings and many players were able to have a good day.

Although the names of Kwon Alexander, Lavonte David, and Gerald McCoy were heard across the loud-speaker quite frequently, there was one player who should have had recognized for all his dirty work. Robert Ayers Jr. had one HELL of a game against the Falcons. Although it may not show on the stat sheet, other than his sack, Ayers looked like a man amongst boys. His penetration and constant pressure on the quarterback is something the Bucs have been dying for.
Going into the season, much of the speculation has surrounded both Noah Spence and Jacquies Smith on which defensive end could finally break through to being a double-digit sack artist, but Ayers has gone mostly under the radar. The wily vet has come close in his previous years with the Giants, but this finally may be the year he pulls it off. The best part about Ayers is that he doesn’t just edge rush successfully, he can slide inside and do just as well.
Ayers was able to put consistent pressure against Matt Ryan, Sunday in Atlanta. Even though he was unable to log more than one sack, his relentless pressure helped forced Ryan into the arms of his fellow Bucs. Let us also not forget about his gap presence. Ayers was a key piece in forcing many plays outside, where the Falcons ran into one of our stud linebackers or safeties.
Here is a great post game interview he had with Casey Phillips
“I don’t believe in losing, I hate losing.” Now that is a determined man. Ayers emotions on and off the field are contagious. If his veteran presence is able to infect the youth down in the bay, there are going to be great things on the horizon.
