Buccaneers Doug Martin set to join the team for OTA’s that begin on Monday.

The Buccaneers begin OTA workouts next Monday. This will mark the beginning of the team’s offseason program in preparation for the 2017 season. It’s our real jump off point to say football is on its way back.

Well, an old friend will be showing up, as Roy Cummings reported in Florida Football Insiders:

"Martin has met with the team and it is expected that he’ll be back with the Bucs for the start of offseason workouts next Monday. If so, it will be another positive step in the right direction for a player who has lost his way but still holds tremendous value for the Bucs, if he can get back on track."

This is quite the positive step, even if Martin’s future with the Bucs isn’t certain. It goes to confirm that Martin is a man of his word.

Remember when we learned of the suspension? He stated he wouldn’t appeal and was going to take his punishment and learn from it. It sounds as if the rehab program that he entered was a success. He is coming out focused and ready to hit the football field.

Now will he be staying with the Bucs? We don’t know that yet. But that will be, in part, about performance. As we have touched upon many times, Martin’s career has been up and down to say the least. Jason Licht may move on, depending upon how the draft turns out, making the change in favor of a younger player.

As a man, however, Doug Martin deserves a second chance. Somewhere in the league he will get it, with the Bucs or another team. Attending OTA’s is a great start.
