Third Wide Receiver: Adam Humphries – VS – Chris Godwin.

Let’s start with a little surprise for some who will say “Humphries is the Bucs slot receiver why would an outside receiver take snaps away from Hump?”
Which would be correct since at Penn State Chris Godwin lined up in the slot a total of thirteen times in 2016 and is your classic outside receiver.

More from Bucs News

BUT … the headline does not say “slot” receiver it says third wide receiver and per Joebucfans.com Koetter talked about getting the best wide receivers on the field all at one time.

Humphries as mainly the slot receiver was the third leading receiver for the Buccaneers behind Mike Evans and tight end Cameron Brate.

Brate played more snaps then Humphries during the same amount of games with 707 snaps or 47 snaps/game to 648 snaps or 44 snaps/game.

Humphries was also the third leader receiver in touchdowns behind Evans (12) and Brate (8) with only two, so more productions was needed from the receivers other than Evans which is why they brought in DeSean Jackson in free agency as the number two receiver and drafted Godwin.
As mentioned in the link above, Godwin can play the slot but he may not be the one playing slot, but maybe Mike Evans could play slot sometimes to create mismatches or DeSean Jackson using his speed to play in the slot.

Meaning the Godwin may come in to play on the outside as the third receiver and not Humphries when Evans/Jackson moves to the slot.

So Humphries (5’11” 195 lbs running a 4.53 at Clemson’s pro day) who only played in 57% of the total offensive snaps last season could possibly even have less snaps then Godwin (6’1” 208 lbs who ran a 4.42 forty at the combine) and Per Buccaneers.com Joe Kania has looked amazing (granted in no pads or contact) in OTAs and minicamp.
