Touchdowns in the Red Zone

As I brought up in my previous article about the impression from the Jaguars game, red zone scoring is still an issue with the Buccaneers offense I mean the team knows it as you can see by Winston’s quote during the post-game presser:

"“We got finish man, touchdown, touchdowns in the red zone.”"

The Buccaneers have plenty of tall receivers for Jameis to pitch it up to (not like he did during the Jags game though) – since usually tall receivers are the quarterbacks best friend in the red zone – with Mike Evans at 6’5”, Cameron Brate at 6’5”, and now O.J. Howard as well who is 6’6” they just have to find a way to get it to these players.

Last season the Browns had the fourth worst red zone scoring defense during the regular season allow opposing teams to score on 66.7% of their red zone attempts and the Buccaneers offense scored touchdowns on 58.5% of their red zone attempts.

Granted the preseason is a much different animal then the regular season but the Buccaneers have only score two times on five attempts or 40%, and last season in preseason game three against the Browns the Buccaneers scored a touchdown once on three attempts in the red zone.

It will be interesting to see if the Buccaneers try new ways to score some touchdowns while in the red zone against the Browns on Saturday.
