The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced their team captains for the 2017-18 season.

No big surprises here. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced their team captains for the upcoming season and it’s basically exactly what we all expected. The captains are as follows;

Offense:

Jameis Winston – Quarterback

Mike Evans – Wide Receiver

Defense:

Gerald McCoy – Defensive Tackle

Lavonte David – Linebacker

Kwon Alexander – Linebacker

Special Teams:

Josh Robinson – Gunner/Cornerback

Jameis Winston is the slam dunk, no doubter. His leadership and will to win make him the unquestioned top dog of the Bucs. Mike Evans will sport the captain patch a second straight season as he is the leader of the wide receiver room, despite DeSean Jackson‘s veteran leadership.

Kwon Alexander earned his captain title with his consistent play since he broke onto the scene as a rookie. He joins multi-time captains Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David as the core of the defense moving forward.

Josh Robinson replaces Russell Shepard as the special teams captain as Shepard left the team as a free agent to join division rival Carolina, taking a spot as a starting wide receiver. Robinson made some jaw dropping plays as a gunner on the punt team, helping Bryan Anger‘s average distance with some incredible downs inside the five yard line.

What we can take away from this is the growing shift in leadership of the team. McCoy and David are the vested veterans, while Alexander, Winston, and Evans are the core group that the team will be centered around for the better part of the next decade. And although many question McCoy‘s leadership method – the quiet, lead by example, fun guy – there is no doubt that he elevates the play of the entire defensive line when he is on the field and is one guy everyone on the team looks up to.
