Six Topics Suitable For Conversation

.) Is There Any Way To Right The Ship? At this point, I lean no. That’s not to say it’s out of the question, but this Buccaneers team has shown us nothing to believe they can all of a sudden put it all together and start playing complete games on both sides of the ball. Yes, they found a way to do it last year so it is possible, but the chances are slim. At some point, you have to begin questioning the entire team – players and coaches – and figure out how this thing is going to get fixed for 2018. One more loss, and we’re talking draft halfway through the season.

.) When Do The Bucs Decide It’s Best Jameis Winston Sits? Now before you FREAK OUT, no – this does not mean bench him. At what point do the Buccaneers look at how this season has gone and decide to go ahead and put Winston on IR and allow him to get the surgery needed to repair the tear in his shoulder (as reported by Jay Glazer on the FOX pregame show) and avoid a potential Andrew Luck situation? Jameis throwing the ball nearly 40 times a game is not going to help that shoulder heal any faster and this season is rapidly approaching a point when it’s best to allow the franchise quarterback to get healthy, not worse.

.) Did They Believe Their Own Hype…Again? We all know the story. Last season, after starting the year off by whooping Atlanta in their house, the Bucs players bought into their own hype, their own press clippings, leading to them laying an egg against the Cardinals. Fast forward to 2017. They were the off-season darlings with the additions of DeSean Jackson and O.J. Howard. Hard Knocks came to town to feature “the next big thing”. Good Morning Football was singing their praises. They were the trendy, sexy pick for NFC South champions and a playoff run. Did the Buccaneers think they had it in the bag before the season even started? And now that things have deteriorated, is it too late to recover. This is of course pure speculation, but consider it an educated opinion.

.) Stop Asking For Jon Gruden To Come Back. For the love of all things holy, please shut up with this. Did everyone forget the roller coaster that was the Gruden era? Does everyone forget that he didn’t win a playoff game after the Super Bowl? Does everyone forget how completely abysmal his draft classes were? Why is it that Gruden is all of a sudden some sort of savior? Changing coaches every two years has been one of the biggest contributors to the problems the Bucs have had for the better part of a decade. I’m still a firm believer Koetter should give up play calling, but I sure as heck don’t think he needs to be fired. If Gruden was going to be the savior of a franchise, it would have happened by now. I mean, how many coaching vacancies have occurred since he was let go? Yes, I think he’ll coach again, but no, it won’t be in Tampa. Chanting “Gruden” at the end of this game by fans in attendance was idiotic. What happened to praising Koetter as “The Godfather”? Quick to turn, aren’t we?

.) Vernon Hargreaves Got His Swagger Back. I don’t care that the kid is wagging his finger like Dikembe Mutumbo after an overthrown pass. At the end of the day, VH3 played a heck of a game for the second week in a row. Maybe moving him to slot last week and his performance in that role helped him get his head straight. Due to the injury to Brent Grimes, VH3 was forced to move back to the outside and cover Kelvin Benjamin. VH3 made some great heads up plays, had some key pass break ups, and overall is starting to look like a serviceable outside corner. To be a corner in the NFL, you have to be one cocky dude. When that confidence is shaken it takes a lot to get back on track. It appears – as of now – Hargreaves is on his way.

.) It’s Nice To Have A Kicker Making His Kicks. Pat Murray is perfect on the season. Just needed something to throw in here for a little positivity. MOVING ON!
