Winners

Lavonte David

Lavonte David continued his all-pro season on Sunday against the Jets. David finished the game with seven tackles and a fumble recovery, and now has 51 tackles and four forced fumbles on the season. On a defense that has struggled most of the season, David has consistently stood out.

More from The Pewter Plank

In recent weeks it’s been David with the green sticker on his helmet, meaning the Bucs have put the leadership role on his shoulders. For a team as bad as the Buccaneers, it’s good to see players like David still giving it their all. If he keeps it up, we should expect to hear pro-bowl buzz.

Chris Godwin

With Mike Evans suspended this week, it fell upon rookie receiver Chris Godwin to take the reigns, and he stepped up in a big way. Godwin was a consistent target of Ryan Fitzpatrick all game, and finished with five catches for 68 yards. The rookie could have had an even better game if not for some inaccuracy on Fitzpatrick’s part.

Godwin will remain a utility player when Mike Evans returns, but his strong performance on Sunday is encouraging for the long term picture. The Bucs will not have DeSean Jackson forever, so eventually Godwin will need to be the guy next to Evans.
