Round 1, Pick 5: Quinnen Williams, DL, Alabama

The best case scenario with the Buccaneers is seeming like it could become a definite reality once the end of April rolls around. Somehow, the best overall player in this draft could fall in Tampa Bay’s lap to round out the top five in Quinnen Williams.

More from The Pewter Plank

The Alabama defensive tackle is clearly the most talented player in this entire class, but due to the rumors that multiple teams could love quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins enough to trade into the top-five to grab them, the Buccaneers get the world’s nicest come up. With the rumors that the Bucs may be looking to split from Gerald McCoy’s $13 million contract, Williams would be the absolute perfect player to fill that void and start day-one.

Williams had a monster year in 2018 that led to him getting a vote for the Heisman Trophy, and shot himself on to the radars of NFL draft scouts and general managers after being relatively unheard of entering last season. Now, the Buccaneers are licking their chops at the thought of being able to put Williams in the pewter and red.

Not only the best case scenario, but becoming more likely by the day, Williams coming to Tampa Bay with the fifth pick in the draft is the dream for Licht, who desperately needs to nail this draft as he enters the 2019 season on the hot seat.
