Round 2, Pick 39: Juan Thornhill, S, Virginia

This offseason the Buccaneers have gone to great lengths to try and improve the third level of their defense by signing two safeties, including one from the AAF, Orion Stewart, last week. While both Stewart and Kentrell Brice bring a level of competition to the safety position this year, the Buccaneers would be foolish to go into camp with just these additions.

Juan Thornhill from the University of Virginia would give the Bucs a great infusion of talent and athleticism to the back of their defense. Thornhill put his name on the map at the combine, and it turns out that his film is equally as impressive as his athletic ability.

At the combine, Thornhill measured in at 6’0 and 205 pounds, and proceeded to test in the 99th percentile in both the vertical and broad jump; he hit 44 inches in the vertical jump, and 141 inches in the broad jump respectively. Thornhill also proceeded to set the track on fire, running a blazing 4.42 second 40 yard dash.

In 2018, Thornhill tallied nearly 100 tackles for the Cavalier defense, and added six interceptions, giving him a total of 13 for his career. The Buccaneers are in need of a game changer in their secondary, and Thornhill is that guy they could be looking for.
