2020 mock draft has Tampa Bay Buccaneers taking quarterback

It is way too early to tell, but a recent 2020 NFL mock draft has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers jumping ship on Jameis Winston and selecting a quarterback.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are preparing for the beginning of the Bruce Arians era and potentially the end of the Jameis Winston era. According to the most recent 2020 NFL mock draft by Walter Chepernisky from Walterfootball.com the Bucs are slated to selected a quarterback with their first round pick next April.

With the Bucs projected in this scenario to have the sixth overall pick that would lead one to believe the Bucs and Bruce Arians had a rough go of it in year one. Having a bad record can happen from poor team play or due to significant injuries but regardless of what happens to the Bucs health wise most reporters, commentators and fans don’t expect the Bucs to be a successful team for one reason or another in 2019.

If 2019 is not one filled with success or clear improvement from the former number one overall selection, Jameis Winston expect the Bucs to move on and start with a fresh, young arm. When acquiring a franchise quarterback, almost always a top pick must be spent an to select to such talented prospects.

This 2020 draft is projected to be a very deep one in terms of quality quarterbacks. This particular mock has the Bucs selecting the University of Georgia sensation Jake Fromm. Fromm was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school and decided to stay home and play for the Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart.

When Fromm decided to commit to the Bulldogs it had a few scratching their heads because the team already had a proven starter and in former five-star recruit in Jacob Eason. The possibility of sitting and fighting for a spot was something Fromm did not waiver from and attacked head on. Eason suffered an injury early in his sophomore season and that opened the door for Fromm to be the man.

Fromm would go on to lead the Bulldogs to the college football playoff final round where they lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide in overtime. In his second season the Bulldogs finished with an 11-3 record with losses to teams all in the top-15.

While Fromm might be the guy come next draft the Bucs love there are a number of other players such as Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama), Justin Herbert (Oregon) and Jacob Eason (Washington). The Bucs will almost certainly be looking to select a quarterback in the first round of next year’s draft if they find themselves picking inside the top-six again.
