Right Guard: Earl Watford vs. Alex Cappa

Last year Caleb Benenoch struggled mightily at right guard, and it looks like Arians and Leftwich are ready to move on; he has moved to tackle this offseason, opening up a competition at his old spot. Next up is last year’s third round pick Alex Cappa, who will be given every opportunity to win the starting job opposite Ali Marpet.

Not so fast, the Buccaneers also signed Earl Watford, an Arians’ draft pick and starter in Arizona. While he could be here to help the offensive line transition smoothly into a new scheme, he also loves “taking jobs” (Watford via Twitter). With experience both on the field and in Arians’ scheme, Watford may just be a surprise this summer.

Again, the Buccaneers are going to give Cappa every chance to win the job after investing a day-two pick on him in last year’s draft. However, there is the chance that he is still not ready or developed enough. In that case, the Buccaneers may look to start Watford instead.

With all but one spot of the offensive line solidified, the right guard spot is the position to keep an eye on this summer. Cappa and Watford look to get into the cage and battle it out until the end of camp and into the regular season.
