He will rack up the tackles

NFL award voters what a grabby stat line that they can hold onto when they vote for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Good news for White is that he should have a loaded one this upcoming season during his campaign to win the award.

More from The Pewter Plank

Given the amount of time he will see on the field, White will rack up the tackles in 2019. During his final year with Louisiana State, White tallied a whopping 62 total tackles, 123 total tackles. 12 of those tackles recorded came behind the line of scrimmage for the Tiger defense last year.

With the lack of depth in the defensive trenches as well, with no real viable starters after Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea, running backs may be able to reach the second level more often, landing right in the lap of White. While this is not a good thing for running backs to reach the second level, nor a positive sign of a good defense, it would lend itself to White’s stat sheet.

If the Buccaneers’ defensive front can hold its own, then White could potentially slip through blockers at the point of attack and record even more tackles for loss, which would catch the eyes of voters. White will not have many sacks from his middle linebacker spot in 2019, but anyone he could accumulate would help his cause as well.
