The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter their sixth season with the modernized uniforms, and players and fans alike would like to see a change; even O.J. Howard.

First reported by the Tampa Bay Times’ Thomas Bassinger, O.J. Howard recorded a video to his Instagram story (@dajuice_80) of a game of Madden where he is playing as himself in the 2000s red home uniforms. The caption on the video as he catches a touchdown with himself says, “We need these uni’s back.”

It is safe to say that not even current players like the look of the alarm clock numbers and the creamsicle sliver on the shoulder. They do not have a strong reputation around the league either, as they are frequently ranked near the bottom of the league in design.

The Buccaneers should have never have touched the 2000s era uniforms with the red homes, the white aways with the creamsicle outline on the numbers, and the pewter pants. The alarm clock numbers and the wacky stripes along the pants and shoulders were an attempt to modernize the Buccaneers’ jerseys, but a failed attempt at that.

More from The Pewter Plank

"“The beauty of the Packers’, Bears’ and Giants’ uniforms is that they’re simple. They don’t need reflective chrome or blinking lights. They say Green Bay, Chicago and New York. The Bucs’ uniforms say identity crisis. That’s what happens when you “collaborate” and take a design-by-committee approach” (Editorial via Tampa Bay Times)."

Do you know the saying “look good, play good?” Well the Buccaneers have had one winning season since changing the uniforms. While this really has nothing to do with the uniforms, it is time for a fresh start in Tampa Bay.

Experienced head coach Bruce Arians has been brought in, and with this change in energy and optimism should come a facelift of the uniforms; The helmets can stay, the rest must go.

The players hate them, the city hates them, I bet the organization on truth serum would say they hate the uniforms; it is time to finally get rid of the hideous look. When the Buccaneers do look to update their uniforms (hopefully next year), they must look to simplify the design and get back to the history of their team rather than attempting to modernize it.
