Second-most receiving yards outside the numbers in 2018

Behind only Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers, Evans finished with the second-most receiving yards outside of the numbers as well. Evans will not be asked to play in the slot much or at all, and it would be an extreme mishandling of his skill set if he was.

Well over half of Evans’ receiving yards in 2018 came outside the hash marks for the Buccaneers, displaying a receiver who can win underneath, over the top, and on the back shoulder. This will only help to benefit Evans in the future as defensive backs are essentially helpless when matched up against the 6-5 superstar.

If a cornerback brings the press coverage, Evans will make the play over the top, but if the corner gives him some space, Evans will work the underneath routes as well; and we wonder why cornerbacks the size of Jamel Dean are finding a role in the NFL today.

Evans has a knack for winning one-on-one outside of the numbers for the Buccaneers, and there is no reason to think that domination will not continue. If Winston and Evans can continue to develop their non-verbal hot routes, they could become essentially unstoppable heading into 2019.
