The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded DeSean Jackson for a sixth round pick and signed Breshad Perriman as his replacement this offseason.

After a disappointing start to his career, the former first round pick Breshad Perriman finally started to put together what looks like a comeback attempt to shake off the “bust” label. During his time with the Baltimore Ravens, who drafted him back in 2015, Perriman was known for dropping passes and being on the sideline more than on the field; now, however, Perriman has been named the best “under-the-radar” move made by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

He was cut by the Ravens last offseason, was signed then shortly after cut by Washington, and then landed with the Cleveland Browns six games into the 2018 season. During that span, Perriman saw limited targets, but the looks he did get he capitalized on while wearing the orange and brown.

He finished his 2018 campaign with 340 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 catches, averaging over 21 yards per reception; he saw only 25 targets, producing to the tune of a catch percentage of a high 64 percent. With a bigger and better opportunity in Tampa Bay this year, taking over the role of the vertical threat from DeSean Jackson, the Buccaneers may have found a gem when they signed Perriman to a one-year, $4 million contract.

NFL Spin Zone’s Randy Gurzi also agrees, stating:

"“Adding Breshad Perriman on a one-year deal helps tremendously in this area. A former first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens, Perriman hasn’t lived up to his draft status but that doesn’t mean he can’t contribute. He proved that last season after the Ravens released him in September” (Gurzi via NFL Spin Zone)."

Frequently winning down the field, Perriman should excel in head coach Bruce Arians’ offensive scheme that takes a ton of deep shots. Perriman, at 6-2 and with 4.3 40 second speed, has a chance to really bust out this season after getting himself in a place to earn another contract last year.

Perriman should have room to operate in Tampa Bay as well. He is set to line up with receivers who will draw attention such as Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and tight end O.J. Howard.

As Gurzi stated, Perriman could be the Buccaneers’ must under-the-radar signing if he can come in and stretch the field for the Arians and quarterback Jameis Winston. He currently sits as the third wide receiver on the roster and will be given plenty of opportunity to show off his speed.
