Surprisingly High: Demar Dotson

Right tackle Demar Dotson, at the age of 33, has been given an overall rating of 88 as he enters the last season (presumably) of his tenure in Tampa Bay. No doubt Dotson is a solid right tackle who has put together quite the career for an undrafted converted tight end, but an 88 for the downhill of his career seems a bit steep.

Pro Football Focus (subscription required) graded Dotson out at an above average 67.3 for his performance in 2019. While there is no doubt Dotson deserves to be over an 80 overall, he is the same overall as Ali Marpet, who is one of the best interior linemen in the entire league.

Surprisingly Low: Donovan Smith

The Buccaneers just paid Donovan Smith on an extension worth about $13 million annually over the next three seasons for him to be rated as a 68 overall left tackle; this ranks him as the 32 overall left tackle in the game. For a player who has been consistent, not great, but consistent, this seems criminal.

Yes, Smith surrenders a ton of pressures, but this is too low for a former second round pick who has started every game over the first four seasons of his career. This should play as a massive chip on Smith’s shoulder in 2019.
