The ratings for the players in Madden 20 have been released and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy has the advantage over Ndamukong Suh.

The saga of Gerald McCoy in Tampa Bay came to a tragic conclusion this summer with the veteran defensive tackle heading up to play for the Carolina Panthers. This came as a rough loss for the Buccaneers who are in need of depth on defensive line. To offset this the Buccaneers brought in Ndamukong Suh who many fans believe is an upgrade but this is not the case statistically or apparently to the developers of Madden 20.

McCoy just barely edged past Suh by one point in the game (86 for McCoy and 85 for Suh), but the same can be said about the entirety of McCoy’s personal career. As far as stats per games played goes McCoy has the advantage. In Pro Bowl selections McCoy has six to Suh’s five.

The only place where the comparison is not close is in their character, where McCoy far outshines Suh both on and off the field. The only rating that does not show up on the website is the rate by which the players are penalized, and one must believe that Suh’s number should be higher.

In the game Suh is listed as a faster and stronger right end for a 3-4 while McCoy has less of the physical attributes and is better at creating penetration against the offensive line. As anyone who plays Madden knows, the main attributes to prioritize for defensive ends in a 3-4 are strength, block shed, power move, finesse move, and in some iterations of the game awareness plays a big role.

Suh is far stronger and faster than McCoy and has a better block shed rating. McCoy has the advantage in every other important category, which is to be expected. Both players appear to be middle of the upper pack of defensive linemen to use but are both some of the better players on their respective teams. Suh and McCoy are both the best defensive linemen on their individual teams and should be the best at creating pressure against the quarterback.

While the advantage is not huge, McCoy still gets the nod as the better player and Suh is fortunate that some of his more negative characteristics are not being implemented into the game. In an Ultimate Team play through with McCoy available as a Buc, he could be hard to pass up even if Suh has to be relegated to the backup position. The Buccaneers were able to fill a hole this past offseason but the loss of McCoy will still be felt both on the field in real life and in the virtual one.
