Fitzpatrick holds Bucs back early

While the Giants opened up with back-to-back touchdown drives, the Fitzpatrick led Buccaneers failed to convert a fourth down conversion on their first drive, then punted on their second. Finally, after forcing a three and out by the Giants, the Buccaneers put together their first scoring drive of the game on an eight play, 64 yard drive that ended in a one yard run by Fitzpatrick.

The Buccaneers then forced another Giants punt, giving Fitzpatrick the chance to run a two minute drill to put points on the board before half. Starting the drive from their own 14 yard line, Fitzpatrick connected with DeSean Jackson for 20 yards, then the Buccaneers were helped out by three consecutive penalties to put them into field goal range; Fitzpatrick, however, did what quarterbacks are never supposed to do as he forced a ball, already in scoring position, that was intercepted as the Giants kept the Buccaneers off the board.

After going into the locker rooms down 14-7 at the half, the Buccaneers received the ball to start the second half. On the second play of the drive, however, Fitzpatrick dropped back to pass and again was intercepted, this time by Alec Ogletree. The Giants’ linebacker returned the pick for a touchdown as the Giants jumped up on the Buccaneers 21-7.

Looking for vengeance from his last two drives ending in interceptions, Fitzpatrick led the Buccaneers’ offense back onto the field. However, again in Giants’ territory, Fitzpatrick goes from bad to worse as he threw his third interception in as many drives; in comes Winston on the next possession after the Giants hit a field goal to go up 24-7 in the third quarter.
