OLB Shaq Barrett

This one is the most obvious deal that must get done for the Buccaneers this offseason. After thriving in the shadows with the Denver Broncos for four years, Barrett decided to spread his wings, bet on himself, and sign a one year deal with the Buccaneers, a place he knew he would be given a chance to start.

More from The Pewter Plank

Barrett’s gamble to sign a short term deal has proven to be for the best as he could be staring down a long term deal between $17-20 million after this season, given his performance thus far in the season. Just a quarter of the way through the year and Barrett has already tallied nine sacks; he had 14 in his career entering the 2019 season.

On pace to shatter the single season sack record, Barrett has tallied a sack in every single game this season, and has won NFC Defensive Player of the Year award once this year as well. If Barrett does not win Defensive Player of the Month for September, then it will be nothing short of highway robbery and the entire city of Tampa will revolt.

Tampa cannot afford to let Barrett walk after this season, and should start negotiations with his agent soon as his price will only go up from here. Barrett should remain in the pewter and red for the foreseeable future, and it is up to the Bucs’ front office to make sure this happens.
