Buccaneers have an Offensive Player of the Year candidate in Jameis Winston

After four weeks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston looks on pace to finish the year in contention for the NFC Offensive Player of the Year.
As the first quarter of the 2019 NFL season is wrapping up, quarterback Jameis Winston has crawled back to life after a statistically poor week one game against the San Francisco 49ers and has ended up with the fifth in passing yards in the NFL with 1,167 yards through the air. It is still too early to tell, but a quarter of the way through the season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an Offensive Player of the Year candidate.
Jameis was able to silence the doubters (including this writer) with a very impressive terror over the last three weeks that may have him in contention for top offensive players in the NFC. After his week four performance, torching the Los Angeles Rams for 385 yards and four scores, Winston won NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still on pace to put up some incredible numbers in his second season as a full time starter and will likely win MVP again at this rate, but the NFC has a sort of power vacuum that Winston can certainly step in to. In the NFC right now, only a few players come to mind who could compete with Winston for the award if it were given out today, including Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, and Christian McCaffrey.
