ComPewter Analysis: a deeper look at Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston
By Cory Kinnan
A look at the box score
When looking at the black and white numbers, Winston currently sits ninth in the league in passing yards on the season with 1,371 yards through the air. He does, however, rank in the bottom third of the league in completion percentage at just over 63 percent; even though this is in the lower third of the league, it is not a bad completion number to be sitting at.

The Florida State product is tied second in the league in passing touchdowns with the likes of the reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes, division rival Matt Ryan, and Dak Prescott. Winston is just one touchdown short of Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson, who leads the league in passing touchdowns.
There are, however, only five other quarterbacks with more interceptions than Winston has on the year as he has tossed five picks. Winston’s interceptions are a bit inflated though, as he threw three interceptions in the first game of the season, but has thrown just two over the last four weeks. Overall, Winston ranks 15th in the league in quarterback rating among qualifying quarterbacks.
Unfortunately for the former first overall pick in the draft, he has been sacked the fourth most times this season, and this problem could get worse for him and the Buccaneers. The entirety of the right side of the pewter and red offensive line has been declared out this week as the Buccaneers take on the Carolina Panthers, the league leader in sacks on the year.
