As Jameis Winston struggles, the rumor on the street is that Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians is interested in LSU quarterback Joe Burrow.

It has been back-to-back weeks of meltdowns for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and this week it compounded into five interceptions from quarterback Jameis Winston. In his contract year and uncertainty as to whether or not he will return, JC Cornell of The Draft Network tweeted out today that head coach Bruce Arians is “a big fan of” Louisiana State quarterback Joe Burrow.

Thus far in his fifth year with the Bucs after being their first overall pick in the draft in 2015, Winston has looked more of the same as he has over the first four seasons in Tampa. Against the Carolina Panthers in today’s game in London, Winston threw for 400 yards, but also gave the ball away six times, including five interceptions.

Known for compounding mistakes onto more mistakes over his career, it was thought that his marriage with Arians would finally allow him to take the leap he needed to in the final year of his career. Winston now leads the league in interceptions with ten picks, and has also thrown for 12 touchdowns.

For now, the Bucs are riding with Winston, but moving forward there is uncertainty to say the least. The hot name right now would be Burrow, who is the Heisman front runner at this point in the season for the Tigers in his second year with the team. After losing the Ohio State starting job to now Washington quarterback and first round pick Dwayne Haskins, Burrow transferred to LSU.

In his second season, Burrow has blossomed into his own and is currently torching SEC defense after SEC defense. In seven less games from the year before, Burrow is only just 700 yards behind the numbers he posted in 2018.

Burrow has thrown for 2,157 yards through the air and 25 passing touchdowns for the Tigers; the OSU transfer threw for just 16 last year. Limiting his turnovers as well, Burrow has thrown just three interceptions on the season down in Baton Rouge.

There are still 10 games for the Buccaneers and Winston to turn the season around, but for now there is reason to question whether or not the former number one overall pick will be back in the pewter and red next season. Keep Joe Burrow on the radar as the head ball coach for the Bucs is intrigued by what he has seen.
