Buccaneers land Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in mock draft

In a recent mock draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers landed Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts with the 11th overall pick in the draft.
In the era of today, draft content never ends as weekly mock drafts are becoming a trend. The Draft Network is leading the charge with the most extensive draft database. In a mock draft released today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers landed Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts with the 11th overall pick in the draft.
Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman reported this week that the Bucs are looking to “reset their sights” at the quarterback position after this season, either through the draft or via a trade. This has led many to think that head coach Bruce Arians is ready to get his own guy in Tampa moving forward.
In this mock draft done by Kyle Crabbs of TDN, Joe Burrow of LSU and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa went first and second overall. This left the Bucs to choose between Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, and Jake Fromm of Georgia; they, while this writer would not have, took Hurts over Herbert.

"“Winston is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and is earning just short of $21M this season. That’s a tough sell: on pace for 70+ sacks and nearly 30 interceptions for a cool $20M. And so Jalen Hurts is the first of the ‘other’ quarterbacks to get his name called — namely because he’s got enough arm strength to zip the ball all over the field but also because he’s not flawed under pressure relative to Winston and 2020 QB prospects like Justin Herbert” (Crabbs via TDN)."
Hurts transferred from the University of Alabama to Oklahoma this season as a grad transfer after getting benched in favor of Tagovailoa with the Crimson Tide. Thus far, Hurts is playing like a Heisman Trophy candidate in Norman, Oklahoma as their quarterback with guru coach Lincoln Riley.
After Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray went first overall in back-to-back years from Oklahoma and from under Riley’s wing, Hurts is now the next Sooner quarterback to see his stock rise. The Sooners remain undefeated, and Hurts’ contribution is a major reason as to why.
Thus far through the 2019 season, Hurts has completed 74 percent of his passes for over 2,000 yards passing, 20 touchdowns, and three interceptions. In addition to his passing yards, Hurts has added another 705 yards rushing and ten scores on the ground.
The dual-threat quarterback could continue to see his stock rise based on how his season ends. Here, he lands 11 with the Buccaneers, but Jalen Hurts’ draft stock remains a relative unknown as the 2019 college football season progresses.
