The trade deadline is today at 4 p.m. and there has been a lot of rumors about the Buccaneers potentially trading Mike Evans, but will they?
2019 is yet another season that has been disappointing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their fans, as a 2-5 start isn’t exactly what everyone was looking for coming into this season. The NFL trade deadline is October 29th, at 4 pm, just under four hours from now, and there have been rumors swirling that the Bucs should consider trading star receiver Mike Evans.
Evans, 26, is still and young player that should be one of the team-building blocks for their roster. There is no question that the Bucs roster needs some work before they can be successful on both sides of the ball, but trading your best player isn’t the answer. Not to mention, this rumor started from a Twitter account known for spreading falsities in Incarcerated Bob.
So far this season Evans has racked up 662 receiving yards and six touchdowns, which is sixth in the NFL. Mike Evans provides a safety blanket for a quarterback and a big target who can go up and get passes. Whoever the team gets to be the quarterback of the future will want Evans to be on the roster.

After Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, Evans was visibly frustrated as he spoke with the media. He was blunt on two different topics: losing and his usage down the stretch of this game.
"“At this point, I just, I f***ing hate losing… Even when I’m covered, I think I’m open. I’m a 6-5 receiver with decent athletic ability. I’ve got to make more plays, I guess” (via Greg Auman)"
Although the Bucs are not at a spot where they can compete for a championship just yet, they still have a dynamic duo with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Godwin and Evans are the whole offense for the Bucs, the team has considered moving tight end O.J Howard for the right price, but don’t expect them to move him either.
The last few seasons the team has tried to bolster the offense by drafting weapons for Jameis Winston, although the weapons have played well, the team still isn’t quite ready because of bad offensive line play, inconsistency from Winston and bad play from the secondary. Just because other pieces of the team are failing does not mean to dump the only good assets that you have. If the Bucs want to succeed they won’t be trading their best player.
Evans has been visibility frustrated, but that comes with losing. Evans also is under contract until 2023, so trading him would probably cost the Bucs money, and altogether it just doesn’t make sense for the team to move him. Don’t expect Evans to be moved by the deadline at 4 pm today.
