1. Franchise tag Jameis Winston

The first two options are perhaps the most important. Without a doubt the most important position in the NFL is the quarterback. If this is a fact that you dispute just look to the Rams or the Bears. Both teams have some incredible defensive players and at times defenses, but a weak quarterback for the Bears and a questionable quarterback for the Rams are often the difference in these games. The one exception to this rule would be the Patriots but they are on one pace for the most impressive defensive season ever.

As the quarterback is such an important position the Bucs will have to go into 2020 with a competent player and have made it clear that they will not be looking towards the draft. Because of this they will have to stick with Jameis Winston, which was already the most likely scenario. Jameis knows the offense, is (at times inexplicably) liked by the coaching staff, and with a franchise tag won’t be too expensive.

Jameis has shown talent and a decent upside when he is able to stay protected. Jameis has regressed in the league statistically since his first season but has started to show glimpses of improvement mentally and physically. Jameis was on a tear to start the year and a full season under Bruce Arians may allow him to maintain that pace in 2020. The franchise tag will also give the Bucs several more years to evaluate Jameis and his talent.
