Jameis Winston: Buccaneers hope at quarterback in 2020
By Rob Leeds
What must change?
Demar Dotson and Donovan Smith have both done a disservice to their quarterback and seemingly allow a defensive end or linebacker in at their quarterback ever other play. While the outside (and perhaps the most important part of the line) has been poor, the interior has been solid and thus brings up the line’s overall rating.

One massive critique of Jameis on this point through is that he often holds the ball far too long in situations where his offensive line can provide him with some time. This is something that can be fixed, but part of the blame lies with the coaching staff for implementing plays that take too much time to develop relative to the line that they have.
Jameis is still young and if he gets an extension or a franchise tag he will have more time to grow accustomed to his new coaching staff and offensive system. The coaching staff should also draw blame for completely underutilizing Ronald Jones who is more than capable in the run game, which would take some pressure off of Winston.
The Buccaneer defense and Jameis also do not do any favors to one another. Jameis throws picks and puts the defense in some nasty situations and the defense returns the favor by allowing immediate touchdowns that force the offense right back onto the field. This cycle is not only on the offense or defense but on the whole team, and is part of the problem that contributes to a high number of ill-timed turnovers and easy touchdowns which mars Winston’s image.
