In summary…

Comparing the statistics in the box scores and the analytical evaluations of both Jameis Winston and Teddy Bridgewater, it seems rather obvious that, if the Buccaneers decide to shell out upwards of $30 million for a quarterback in 2020, it should be the Saints’ backup rather than their current starting guy.

It is not like Bridgewater is some random backup that the Bucs would be taking a risk on either; he was a former first round pick and a solidified starter before his knee collapsed from underneath of him three years ago. Now far removed from this incident, Bridgewater again looks to be playing at a high level in 2019; he is only 27 years old as well, giving him more than a decade of playing time still in front of him.

The offensive line can be scapegoated as much as anyone wants to, but the reality is that Winston also does not excel at working through his progressions. Given the cerebral dexterity of Bridgewater, it would not be a shock to see sack numbers decrease even with the same offensive line.

As far as the 2019 season looks, Bridgewater has been worlds ahead of Winston. Someone is going to pay Bridgewater this offseason to take over their starting gig for the future, and given the Buccaneers’ refusal to enter into a rebuild, it should be them.
