Jason Peters a great potential free agent for Buccaneers
By Rob Leeds
As the Buccaneers are going all-in on the next two years with Tom Brady, Jason Peters would be a great free-agent addition for the offensive line.
Aging in the NFL often leads to the end of a career before almost anything else, but in the case of Jason Peters, it seems as though growing older can only slow him down so much.
Peters is moving into his 17th year in the NFL and is showing few signs of slowing down. In 2019, pff.com graded Peters out as the sixth-best tackle in the entire NFL.
While he may be old and the Bucs can’t give him a long contract, Tampa Bay could likely make a move to bring Peters in for a year on a cheap contract to protect Tom Brady.

The offensive line for the Buccaneers in 2019 was nothing flashy and it is generally believed that the Bucs will address their needs on the line in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Most of the offensive tackles in the first round of the draft would be able to start from day one, but if Tampa takes anyone lower they could use a veteran presence to serve as a leader for a year and let the rookie learn.
The Bucs need a proven offensive line now more than ever.
It is no secret that Tom Brady is not as mobile as Jameis Winston and one blindside hit from the wrong edge defender could lead to the end of Brady’s season and the Bucs’ playoff hopes.
Jason Peters would be the exact type of player that would improve the Buccaneer offensive line while also serving as a bridge to the future.
Peters gave up fewer sacks than Donovan Smith and Demar Dotson in 2019 despite being older than both other players.
The only knock against Jason Peters other than his age is that he struggled with penalties in 2019, but he finished the season with as many penalties as Dotson making it mostly a moot point.
Jason Peters is by no means a long-term solution, but he would be a great fit on the current Buccaneer offensive line. Contrary to what most people believe, the offensive line in Tampa Bay is not that far off from being decent, and Jason Peters would be the perfect piece to take the pass-blocking to the next level.
