The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to address the running back depth chart this spring to have major success during the 2020 season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a lot of promise heading into the 2020 season.

The Buccaneers re-signed their entire front-seven from a year ago and added Tom Brady to play the quarterback position. When looking at that offense, there’s plenty of hope to see why people are so high on Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers will have one of the most prolific passing attacks in the league and will look to shore up the offensive line with a selection in the first-round.

But what about the running back position? For the Bucs to have success during the 2020 season, they have to find a running back to add to the depth chart.

Whether it be by bringing in a running back like Chris Thompson or addressing the position through the NFL Draft, the Buccaneers have to find a complementary RB to put alongside Ronald Jones II.

Tampa Bay has the passing attack to be lethal, but the rushing game has to change. The Bucs have been near the bottom of the league in rushing numbers for the past five seasons.

Though Ronald Jones II has shown plenty of promise, he needs a back-up that can be relied upon to take some carries and become a play-maker for Tampa Bay.

So, what does that look like?

Well, there are three names in the 2020 NFL Draft that I would say to keep your eye on: J.K. Dobbins (Ohio State), Clyde Edwards-Helaire (LSU) and A.J. Dillon (Boston College).

All three of these guys are players who can be explosive play-makers, but they do it in different ways.

Dobbins and Edwards-Helaire can catch the ball out of the backfield and Dobbins is probably the most explosive running back in this draft class. Dillon, who is a later-round prospect, is a guy who could be an effective third-down option who gets the tough yards and then still has the speed and athleticism to break off the big run.

No matter who the Bucs elect to go after, the running back position has to be addressed for them to have success in 2020.
