Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl odds drop after 2020 NFL Draft
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers felt as if they came away with a solid draft class, but the Super Bowl oddsmakers weren’t as positive.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came away with some interesting selections during the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Buccaneers traded up one spot in the first-round of the draft to secure OT Tristan Wirfs. They followed that up with a second-round selection of S Antoine Winfield Jr. In the third-round, the Buccaneers selected RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn.
In the final day of the draft, Tampa Bay came away with WR Tyler Johnson (fifth-round), DL Khalil Davis (sixth-round), LB Chapelle Russell (seventh-round) and RB Raymond Calias (seventh-round).
The Buccaneers have had one of the busiest offseasons of any NFL organization and the organization really did a nice job addressing some of those final roster needs in the NFL Draft.
Despite that, Vegas oddsmakers weren’t quite as fond of the Bucs following the draft.
The Bucs originally were listed at 9-to-1 odds to win the Super Bowl, but actually fell back to 12-to-1 odds following the draft.
Though Vegas oddsmakers don’t make clear what tilts the odds one way or another, there may be some questions surrounding the move to bring in Rob Gronkowski and some of those draft selections. Perhaps oddsmakers wanted to see the Bucs take a running back like J.K. Dobbins earlier in the draft to add to that explosive offense.
In addition to Tampa Bay’s draft, it very well could have to do with the moves made by the New Orleans Saints to get better over the offseason and in the NFL Draft.
Though the odds are a bit lower, the truth of the matter is that the Bucs have all the pieces necessary to compete for a playoff spot. Once you get to the postseason, anything can happen.
It’s all about building chemistry, getting better and finding a way to get the job done when it matters most. The odds will fluctuate from time-to-time but there’s no question that the Bucs will be one of the major competitors in the NFC this season.
