The position that the Buccaneers need depth at the most is outside linebacker. After Anthony Nelson, Tampa Bay has no proven depth and could be scrambling before the start of the season to find a veteran option to fill that gap.

Considering he just retired back in 2019 and his age at 34, the Buccaneers could consider Robert Ayers as a possible option.

Ayers was only on the Buccaneers for two seasons, but during that time, he started in 20 games and accounted for 8.5 sacks, 35 quarterback hits, and ten tackles for loss.

By adding Ayers to the roster, the Bucs would find that veteran presence that they have been looking for. Ayers can bring some pressure during reps where Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaquil Barrett are off the field.

This signing wouldn’t challenge Barrett or JPP for their jobs, but it would push Nelson and would give the Buccaneers an additional option to rely on that has NFL experience.

There will certainly still be some rust, but at 34 years old, Robert Ayers has some talent left to leave on the field, and there would be no team better to play for than the one that is vying for the attention of the entire country.
