Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Three veterans that could be replaced
By Rob Leeds
Donovan Smith may not get the most positive reception from some Bucs fans. Still, the stats and analysis show that Smith has improved at a consistent rate during his time in the NFL, and there is a real chance that he will be recognized as one of the better tackles within the next few years.

Smith is one of the most critical players on the roster given his position and Tom Brady’s immobility, but the Bucs could be without their starting left tackle in 2020.
Before it was the trend to do so, Smith spoke out against the NFL’s lack of a concrete (or fair) plan for dealing with COVID-19 during the season. Smith detailed how the NFL’s inaction would negatively impact the players and explained the dangers of playing, especially when he is set to become a father in two weeks.
Given all that is going on and having a child on the way, no one should blame Smith for sitting out during the season to protect his family. It is a tough decision for Smith to make, but the Bucs have to be prepared for the worst contingency.
Fortunately for Tampa Bay, signing backup Joe Haeg during the offseason could be their saving grace. Haeg may not have the same ceiling as Smith, but the Bucs would be far from outmatched if he was in the game.
If the NFL comes up with a plan that makes Smith feel adequately protected, fans should expect him to be the starter, but if the NFL fails to do so, the Bucs could see new starters at left and right tackle in 2020.
