Finding an additional veteran receiver

At the start of the season, Tampa Bay looked like one of the teams with the deepest receiving corps in the league. Scott Miller, Justin Watson, and Tyler Johnson looked like some great depth pieces, but clearly, other pieces would help.

While only a hyperbole, it feels like every pick-6 in Tampa Bay has been on an out route to Watson over the past two seasons. The blame is equally on the quarterbacks for making the wrong read, but the receiver does little to help their case when they run a banana instead of an out.

Miller has been a reliable number three so far this year, but he has inexplicably disappeared in the worst times, even when Chris Godwin has been out with an injury.

After Evans went down with an apparent injury as well, it is clear that the Bucs will need to bring in an additional depth piece if they want to keep their offense rolling in the event of another injury. The Bucs are one more receiver injury away from reverting to the Patriots from last season, and Brady can only do so much without the talent around him.

The Bucs don’t need to bring in a significant name, but anyone with some league experience could give the Bucs a little buffer. There are plenty of veteran receivers that are available in the free-agent market, or the Bucs could even go after a cheaper trade target like John Ross to give more depth to the unit.
