Even with the limited reps, Edwards has been one of the most productive defensive backs for the Buccaneers so far this season. Edwards is in second place for the Bucs right now with two interceptions on the season, but he should be tied for first with Carlton Davis at three.

In addition to the interceptions, Edwards is tied for fourth in the passes defended category with three. Edwards has proven himself this season on the field, and his stats back up his stellar levels of play.

Often, the traditional stats don’t tell the whole story for a player’s performance. Interceptions and passes defended are a great way to look at the production of a member in the secondary, but it also doesn’t show their number of opportunities, which matter in the long run.

While this isn’t a perfect measure, PFF.com does a good job of taking all factors into account when evaluating a player outside of the obvious. According to this metric, Mike Edwards hasn’t just been the highest-rated Buccaneer defender, but he is the highest-rated player on the entire roster.

Edwards clearly hasn’t been the best player on the roster, but this does show that he is the most underused. PFF shows that Edwards’ level of production relative to his stats is one of the best in the NFL right now, which shows that he needs to reach the field more.
