Rob Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski went from being one of the most over-paid tight ends in the league to one of the biggest commodities in nearly two weeks. The season started slow for the future Hall of Famers, but Gronk has reminded everyone why he is the greatest tight end of all time.

More from The Pewter Plank

Gronk’s $9,000,000 contract at the start of the season was a tough pill to swallow for many. The new Buccaneer tight end looked stiff in the offense and was used predominately as a blocker.

To make matters worse, Gronk was thoroughly outplayed in the offense by O.J. Howard when the previous Buccaneer TE1 was healthy. Jason Licht and Bruce Arians looked like they had made a rare mistake by trading for Gronkowski, but that narrative has abruptly shifted.

Even though it took some time to return to football shape, Gronkowski has reclaimed his status as one of the NFL’s top tight ends. Gronk has returned to the highlight tape with incredible contested catches, consistent route-running, and a return of the Gronk Spike.

If the Buccaneers want to keep their offense humming, they will need to keep Gronkowski on the roster for as long as Tom Brady remains. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the offense has been far more dynamic when they are in sync.

Tampa Bay may not be able to afford the same contract that he is currently on, but Gronk should remain with the Buccaneers even if the deal is cheaper.
