Halloween Musings: The scariest thing that could happen to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020

There are plenty of people around the country who will be putting on their favorite horror movies over the course of the next couple of days as they celebrate the Halloween season, but what about a horror movie based on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Of course, we all know the reality of being a Buccaneers fan is that you’re already 13 movies deep into the horror movie franchise right now and it seems to have run its course.

Tampa Bay has consistently found new and depressing ways to disappoint its fan base over the last couple of decades, but things seem like they’re finally trending in the right direction.

So what if we made a ‘horror’ movie delivering the worst fear for Bucs fans during this specific 2020 season? There are plenty of scenarios and outcomes in which you could cause a fright.

Just to name a few…

  • A catastrophic injury
  • A COVID-19 outbreak that costs the team games
  • Making the playoffs just to fall flat on their face

These are all things that can keep Buccaneers fans up at night, but perhaps none would be more Halloween-esque than this nightmare scenario

Imagine the Bucs beat the Giants and the Saints in the next two weeks. That means heading into the rest of November, Tampa is the leader in the clubhouse in the NFC South and things are looking very promising heading down the stretch.

The Buccaneers are able to finish off the season with a record of 11-5 and they win the NFC South Division. Their record is so good, in fact, that they earn a bye week through wild-card weekend and everything seems to be trending in the right direction.

But then it happens.

Who would the Bucs have to play other than the New Orleans Saints- a team they’ve already played twice in the regular season. The Saints win their wild-card game and come into Tampa Bay looking to avenge their divisional title loss.

Drew Brees comes back to life and Tom Brady turns into a pumpkin.

The Saints go on to not only win the game, but upset the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship and they get to play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl- which is being held in Tampa Bay. And we all know how this story ends.

The thought of the Saints beating the Buccaneers in the postseason after losing the divisional title in the regular season and then winning the NFC to play in the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay seems almost too much to bear.

Luckily, horror stories are just fantasies made for shock value and the enjoyment of being scared? They’re not real, right? Happy Halloween, Bucs nation.
