Player #2 for Buccaneers to extend: Lavonte David

Of all the free agents approaching for the Buccaneers, Lavonte David is a clear lock to get a new contract. While the contract’s size and length are up for debate, David is a sure thing to remain in Tampa Bay for the future.

The Buccaneer defense has reached new heights for the first time in nearly two decades this season. All aspects of the defense have been firing on all cylinders, and Lavonte David has been the glue that holds the whole unit together.

David is easily one of the most talented linebackers in the NFL through a variety of skills, and this diversity has been one of the most entertaining parts of the Buccaneers this season. David can rush the passer, drop into coverage, and blow up runners behind the line on a consistent basis, and he is worth every penny of his future contract.

On top of his excellent talent, David is also the heartbeat for the Bucs. David has been the captain and one consistent piece of numerous underachieving teams, and keeping him through the good times is the perfect sign of loyalty from the front office.

If Tampa Bay wants to keep their star defensive player and leader, they will want to get him locked down very soon.
