Scotty Miller could see an expanded role in 2021.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the verge of losing Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown in free agency. Short of some miracle to bring in an influx of cash, the Bucs likely don’t have the money to keep either star receiver, and the Buccaneers will be left with Mike Evans and Scotty Miller from the most-used options in 2020.

Regardless of what happens, Evans will remain the primary target, but Miller stands to gain the most.

As the third and fourth receiver in 2020 at various points, Scotty Miller was one of several players on the roster who never seemed to get enough chances. Every time Miller was on the field, it felt like he was making a huge play down the field, and we all saw this on display versus the Packers in the NFC Championship.

Miller started the season as one of the most productive receivers on the Bucs, but the arrival of Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin’s return from injury cut into his touches. Despite the decrease in use, Miller was still able to make his presence known.

While Miller still isn’t on the same level as AB or Godwin, the Buccaneers should at least see what he can do over a larger sample size as a true number two. Tampa Bay could draft a rookie to replace one of their more significant receiver departures, but it’s unlikely that any of the rookies would have the same relationship with Brady as Miller from the jump.

The best bet for both parties is to move Miller into a more consistent role. The Buccaneers will have a hole in the slot if Godwin leaves in free agency, so a draft pick to address this the most sense. This would keep Miller on the outside and burning unsuspecting defensive backs, and Tom Brady would keep one of his favorite targets on the field for more total snaps.

Scotty Miller has been one of the best late-round picks in recent years, and Bucs fans should see more of him in 2021.
