More from The Pewter Plank

After trading for Carson Wentz, the Colts need to surround him with every weapon possible during his first season with a new team. The Colts could be in the market for a consistent pass-catching tight end if Trey Burton departs in free agency, and their running back room looks full.

As the lead back, Jonathan Taylor looks like an every-down type of player. As a competent pass-catcher and runner, Taylor should see the lion’s share of touches in 2021, regardless of who else is on the roster.

Marlon Mack, who was supposed to be the number two last year, suffered an injury during his final season in Indy. Mack is consistent and has every reason to re-sign with the Colts on a prove-it deal, and the combination of Mack and Taylor could leave Hines as the odd man out.

Hines is a great third-down back that would improve most teams in the league, and the Bucs should be willing to pay for him. With great hands, an efficient running style, and the ability to participate on special teams, there are very few players in the league that the Bucs could use more.

Tom Brady desperately needs a player like Hines, but it’s a long-shot that the Colts would be willing to part with such a tented player. If Mack returns, the prospect gets a little better for the Buccaneers, and they need to hope that they can make a play at Hines if he ever becomes available.

Hines is certainly the most difficult player on this list to go after, but if the Bucs are serious about going all in again, this is the type of player that you need, and Brate could be useful in a trade in this scenario.
