5 Buccaneers to watch as training camp begins

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally kick off training camp today ahead of a pivotal 2026 season. 

There’s no shortage of position battles and storylines for Bucs fans to pay attention to, but five players in particular could steal the show early in training camp. 

These five Buccaneers could turn heads at training camp

OLB Rueben Bain Jr.

Rueben Bain Jr. is undoubtedly the most exciting Buccaneer to watch entering training camp. 

The team’s first-round draft pick participated in drills throughout rookie minicamp and OTAs, but training camp is when the pads finally come in and Bain can go head-to-head with offensive linemen. 

It’s the first real test for Bain as he enters his rookie season with massive hype behind him. 

CB Jacob Parrish 

Jacob Parrish was arguably Tampa Bay’s best cornerback while starting at nickel during his rookie season in 2025.

Now, he’ll get an opportunity to move outside as he competes for the starting job opposite Zyon McCollum. 

Seeing Parrish line up against outside receivers as a boundary cornerback is a key training camp storyline as the Bucs determine whether he’s up for the challenge or better suited to remain in the slot.  

QB Jalon Daniels 

Jalon Daniels has impressed the organization since they signed him as an undrafted free agent. 

Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson even called him the biggest standout among all undrafted rookies during rookie minicamp. 

His rare combination of arm strength and athleticism makes him an intriguing new face in the quarterback room.Throughout training camp, Daniels will be competing with Jake Browning and Connor Bazelak for the backup quarterback job behind Baker Mayfield. 

Watching him take his first live snaps as a pro as he looks to carve out a role will be one of the most exciting storylines of training camp. 

WR Ted Hurst

All eyes are on Ted Hurst as he looks to prove he’s capable of filling the X wide receiver role that Mike Evans held down for over a decade. 

Hurst was one of the most explosive pass catchers in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Bucs believe he can develop into a future No. 1 receiver. 

It’ll be exciting to see how he fares catching passes from Baker Mayfield and facing off against the team’s starting secondary. 

S JJ Roberts 

JJ Roberts was one of the biggest surprises of last year’s training camp and preseason for Tampa Bay.

He burst onto the scene as an undrafted free agent and was a lock to make the 53-man roster before a season-ending injury threw a wrench in the team’s lofty hopes for the rookie. 

Roberts is a player to watch as he looks to prove he’s fully recovered and ready to make the same impact he made last offseason.
