The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are waiting for their 2026 schedule to be unveiled by the NFL.
Each year, the upcoming slate is released in mid-May, just a few weeks after the conclusion of the NFL Draft.
This year, Tampa Bay is staring down an absolute gauntlet, with matchups against the entire AFC North and NFC North, along with home games against the Cowboys, Chargers, and Rams, plus their annual division rivalry slate.
There’s no shortage of intriguing matchups on the horizon, but some stand out more than others. Whether it’s a high-stakes rivalry or just a fun, intriguing matchup, a handful of games on the Buccaneers’ 2026 schedule deserve a prime-time spotlight in front of a national audience.
5 prime-time worthy games on Buccaneers’ 2026 schedule
Bucs vs. Browns
This is the marquee game on the Bucs’ 2026 schedule. It’s the game that you can guarantee Baker Mayfield has circled, along with much of the Cleveland fan base. It’ll be the first time Mayfield gets to face the Browns as a Buccaneer, and he’ll get to host them in his new home at Raymond James Stadium.
The Browns drafted Mayfield No. 1 overall back in 2018, and in 2020, he led the franchise to its first playoff victory in 26 years. Just a year later, they gave up on him in favor of Deshaun Watson.
Watson is currently the favorite to be the Browns’ starting quarterback, and seeing Mayfield get a chance to go head-to-head with his replacement and show Cleveland what they’re missing is the most compelling storyline of the season.
Even if Watson ends up not being the starter, it’ll be an intriguing matchup against Shedeur Sanders. Like Mayfield, Sanders is a polarizing personality due to his unflappable confidence and bravado, and if Mayfield doesn’t get to face off against Watson, seeing him take on a Sanders-led Browns team in front of a national audience is a nice consolation prize.
Bucs @ Lions
The Buccaneers and Lions have quietly developed into an under-the-radar rivalry. The two teams have met in each of the past three regular seasons, along with a playoff matchup, with Detroit holding a 3-1 edge in that span.
There are also clear parallels between quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff. Both were former No. 1 overall picks who saw their careers take off after being moved on from by the teams that originally drafted them. Both quarterbacks, and their teams as a whole, carry a feisty underdog mentality that makes for a fun matchup every time they face off.
There’s also been some notable roster crossover this offseason. Tampa Bay added linebacker Alex Anzalone, a former five-time captain in Detroit, while Al-Quadin Muhammad, who recorded 11 sacks for the Lions last season, also joined the Buccaneers’ defense.
The most recent meeting came under the prime-time spotlight last year, but it was a disastrous night for Tampa Bay. Mike Evans suffered a broken collarbone, and the Buccaneers were humiliated in a 24-9 loss despite Detroit being without its entire starting secondary.
Tampa Bay will be eager for another national-stage opportunity against Detroit, with a chance to flip the narrative in a matchup that has recently gone the Lions’ way.
Bucs @ Bears
Unlike the other games on this list, there’s no real animosity or rivalry at play here. This is just a good old-fashioned fun football game that’s too much fun for the 1 p.m. slate.
Baker Mayfield and Caleb Williams are two of the league’s best at improvising outside of the pocket and making something out of nothing. Both are No. 1 overall picks and Heisman Trophy winners that were coached by prolific college coach Lincoln Riley.
The Bears are led by head coach Ben Johnson, who is one of the league’s best offensive minds. The Bucs are of course led by Todd Bowles, who is a defensive guru. Seeing the chess match at play here between the head coaches and quarterbacks is must-see TV.
Add in the backdrop of the historic Soldier Field and the potential for cold-weather conditions to test Tampa Bay outside its comfort zone, and this matchup has all the ingredients of a compelling prime-time showdown.
Bucs vs. Falcons
The Buccaneers facing off against their NFC South rival Falcons will be must-see TV. The Falcons hired Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach this offseason — the same coach who was at the helm when the Cleveland Browns gave up on Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield made it clear this offseason how he feels about Stefanski, and it somehow made this rivalry even more intriguing.
Failed is quite the reach pal. Still waiting on a text/call from him after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage. Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach. https://t.co/jUUsYkvlOC

The Bucs and Falcons never have a boring game. Last season, both meetings came down to the wire. Tampa Bay won the first game during the season-opener 23-20 on a last-minute finish, while Atlanta flipped the script in the rematch, erasing a 28-14 fourth-quarter deficit to steal a 29-28 win.
The rivalry has delivered in prime time, with the teams meeting under the lights in each of the past two seasons, with both games going down to the final moments and ending in Falcons victories.
With how competitive this matchup has been, there’s no reason it shouldn’t land in the national spotlight again for a third straight year, as Tampa Bay looks to finally flip the result in their favor.
Bucs @ Panthers
The Panthers won the NFC South last season, but the Buccaneers had won the division the four seasons prior. There’s a real chance that the two will go head-to-head for the title again in 2026, and the NFC South deserves to have its two best teams face off in front of the country. This one has Thursday Night Football written all over it.
Bryce Young and Baker Mayfield are both former No. 1 overall picks, and both unlocked a new level of their game under Dave Canales’ tutelage. Canales was the Bucs offensive coordinator in 2023, the year they signed Mayfield, and the offense played so well that he was offered the head coaching job in Carolina just a year later.
Mayfield also played for Carolina in 2022, going 1-5 before his eventual release. He has a chip on his shoulder each time he returns to Carolina. There’s also an added layer after the Bucs signed a pair of former Panthers, A’Shawn Robinson and Christian Rozeboom, in free agency who would love to join Mayfield and put on a show against their former team.
The Bucs and Panthers haven’t played a prime time game against each other since all the way back in 2019, and it’s time to change that in 2026 as they battle for the NFC South crown.
