Much has been made about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ home opener in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns are, of course; the team they drafted Baker Mayfield No. 1 overall back in 2018 before giving up on him just a few years later.

Mayfield led Cleveland to their first playoff victory in 27 years, but it wasn’t enough for them to commit to him as their franchise quarterback, and the two sides had a messy breakup.

This year’s matchup presents Mayfield’s first opportunity to face his former team as a member of the Buccaneers, and he’s got the date circled on his calendar. Luckily, his job just got a lot easier.

Buccaneers can breathe a sigh of relief after blockbuster Myles Garrett-Rams trade

The Rams and Browns shocked the NFL world this afternoon by announcing a blockbuster trade that will send Myles Garrett to Los Angeles in exchange for Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick,a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

Garrett was originally scheduled to come to Tampa Bay in Week 2, and without him wreaking havoc on the Bucs offense, Baker Mayfield’s revenge game just got a bit easier.

Garrett broke the all-time NFL sack record last season, recording 23 on the year. He’s got a real argument as the NFL’s best non-quarterback player, and the future Hall of Famer is the most disruptive defensive player in the league.

Tampa Bay will still face a challenge against Cleveland’s new pass rusher Jared Verse, but he’s simply not on the same level as Garrett -- very few are.

The Browns game was already considered one of the easiest on the schedule, and it just got even easier. Tampa Bay should be able to run away with a dominant victory in the home opener, and start the season on a high note.
