It sure sounds like Baker Mayfield subtly called out Josh Grizzard

Another year, another new offensive coordinator for Baker Mayfield. At this point, Mayfield has grown accustomed to being one-and-done with his coordinators but it was a difference case with Josh Grizzard, who only held the position for one year in Tampa Bay.

In the past few years, the Bucs offensive coordinators have been hired for head coaching gigs elsewhere with Dave Canales landing with the Panthers and Liam Coen getting the Jaguars head coaching job last year. Grizzard, however, was fired after not living up to the expectations when he was promoted to OC and he's now locked down a job with the Eagles as their pass game coordinator.

It's no secret that Grizzard underwhelmed during his time in Tampa. The offense had a down year and now they'll hope that Zac Robinson can help right the ship. While speaking about his new offensive coordinator on The Ronde Barber Show, Mayfield might have also semi-dunked on his previous OC.

"Until you call plays -- Calling plays is an art form. Yeah, you can be as knowledgeable as they come but calling plays is an art form. You have to be able to get into a rhythm, know your guys... and then on top of that you can have a game plan going in. Depending on how the game's going, you might have to flip to Plan B or Plan C change right away... And so it's being able to do that on the fly and having the learning experience is invaluable."

Baker Mayfield delivers a comment that sounds aimed at Josh Grizzard

These comments stemmed in a conversation about Robinson, who was hired to be the Bucs OC in 2026, but those listening closely might have sensed the shot taken at Grizzard. For instance, Grizzard didn't call plays until he was promoted to offensive coordinator this past year and... well, it showed.

Sure, the entire Bucs roster dealt with injuries this past year but the offense regressed mightily even before those got out of hand. Mayfield wasn't the same threat at quarterback and it's hard not to blame Grizzard for that. Obviously it wasn't all on him but, at the same time, both sides needed a clean break and now they'll get that with Robinson taking over for him in Tampa and Grizzard heading to Philadelphia.

Bucs fans sure hope that Robinson can achieve with this offense what Grizzard couldn't and that the Eagles see exactly why the team moved on from him.
