The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are staring down a gauntlet of a schedule in 2026.
In such a pivotal season for the organization, they’ll take any advantage they can get.
They were just given a massive break, with Micah Parsons expected to be sidelined for the Bucs’ matchup with the Packers in Week 4.
Latest Micah Parsons injury update is best possible scenario for Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers
Parsons spoke with local media and revealed he’s on a strict nine-month recovery timeline after suffering an ACL tear and undergoing an additional meniscus procedure, via The Athletic's Matt Schneidman.
Micah Parsons had ACL surgery December 29 and also had a meniscus cleanup. He’s “extremely happy” with where he’s at five months into rehab.

“The goal has always been not right now, but longevity with my career here… we have a pretty strong nine-month (no football) rule,” Parsons said.
Parsons had surgery on his torn ACL in the final week of December, which would set his target return date just days before Tampa Bay’s Week 4 showdown with Green Bay on Oct. 4.
While given that timeline it’s technically possible Parsons could return in time for that game, it’s almost impossible to imagine him being cleared, returning to practice and completing a ramp-up period in such a short window.
A Week 5 return, at best, appears far more realistic. The expectation now is that Parsons will be placed on the PUP list, which would force him to miss the first four games

That would allow the Buccaneers to avoid one of the NFL’s most dominant defenders. There may be no glory in facing a weakened opponent, but Tampa Bay needs every advantage it can get with such a difficult schedule ahead.
Parsons has earned four All-Pro selections in five NFL seasons and has recorded at least 12 sacks every year of his career. He’s on a Hall of Fame trajectory and remains one of the league’s most disruptive defensive players.
Even if Parsons somehow returns in time to face Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers would like their odds with elite tackle duo Tristan Wirfs and Luke Goedeke tasked with slowing down a rusty Parsons
The Packers are expected to be cautious here. Parsons is their best player, and risking a setback to rush him back for an early October game wouldn’t make much sense in the grand scheme of things.
All signs point toward Tampa Bay getting its shot at Green Bay with Parsons watching from the sideline. In a game that could carry major NFC playoff implications, that’s a big break the Buccaneers can’t afford to waste.
