Take this rumor with a grain of salt.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have done a lot to improve their backup quarterback situation this offseason.

The last few seasons having Kyle Trask and Teddy Bridgewater man the backup spot was a disaster waiting to happen, and the season would go up in flames if anything happened to Baker Mayfield.

They signed Jake Browning, with ten career starts, in free agency, and signed Jalon Daniels as an undrafted free agent. They also re-signed last year’s undrafted free agent quarterback, Connor Bazelak.

They’re being rumored in connection to another quarterback trade, but it doesn’t make any sense.

Buccaneers reportedly want to trade for Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph

Andrew Fillipponi, a Steelers reporter at 93.7 The Fan, reported that the Buccaneers want to acquire Steelers backup quarterback Mason Rudolph for a late-round pick in next year’s draft.

It’s a move that would make zero sense after already signing Browning this offseason and bringing in Daniels as an undrafted free agent.

If he were released, signing him for increased competition would make plenty of sense, but giving up draft capital doesn’t seem like a trade the Bucs would be willing to make. They’re far more likely to explore the free agency market than the trade block.

They’ve already been named as a team with interest in trading for Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson earlier this offseason, so there could be some truth to their desire in upgrading the backup spot. But again, sacrificing draft picks for a position they’ve already made multiple signings at is highly unlikely.

Fillipponi is a respected voice in Steelers media, but Bucs fans should take his report with a grain of salt.
