There is a ton of excitement surrounding Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie Rueben Bain.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Rueben Bain Jr. with their first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and there won’t be much of a rookie grade period.

Tampa Bay is looking for a savior off the edge, with the pass rush being the defense’s primary weakness for several years now. The team hasn’t had a player record double-digit sacks since 2021.

Now, the Bucs don’t necessarily need Bain to be Superman during his rookie year — and that would be an unfair expectation to place on the rookie. But they’ll be counting on him to be an immediate difference maker.

He’s coming off a season in which he tied the all-time record during the PFF College era with 83 quarterback pressures, and the Bucs are itching for that kind of disruption.

All early indications are that Bain is going to bring the juice that Tampa Bay has desperately been searching for.

Rueben Bain Jr. is impossible to ignore after strong first impression with Buccaneers

ESPN recently called on their team beat reporters to provide the inside scoop on how every first-round rookie fared during OTAs and mini camp.

Jenna Laine covers the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for ESPN, and she had glowing reviews for Bain following his first on-field action as a pro.

“The Bucs were ecstatic that Bain fell to them, and that excitement has only grown as they've seen not only his power, his bend, his leverage and his violent hands up close -- but also his instincts for the position,” wrote Laine.

Head coach Todd Bowles matched that sentiment with his comments regarding the rookie.

“For me, it is his intelligence, his understanding of the game," Bowles said, via Laine. "There are some things that you cannot teach, and he does not learn like a normal rookie, and he does some things that a three- or four-year guy can do."

Last offseason, those within the organization similarly remarked that rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka didn’t carry himself like a rookie. It became a common talking point from players and coaches, that some shrugged off as nothing more than hype.

But Egbuka delivered with an incredible rookie season, making an immediate impact, including a game-winning touchdown catch in his NFL debut.

Now, Bain is generating a similar excitement within the organization that is reminiscent of Egbuka leading up to last season.

If he can live up to the expectations and make a similar impact on the defensive side of the ball, the upside for this Bucs defense rises astronomically.

With the help of Bain, Todd Bowles has a legitimate chance to field his best defensive unit in several years.
